Anonymous asked: how long did training for a marathon take you? I'm really interested in becoming a marathoner but I am only 18 weeks away from the marathon I want to race in. Currently I can run 3 miles without difficulty. Would you advise doing a half marathon or a full one?
Most marathon training plans are 18 weeks. I used Hal Higdon’s Intermediate 1 training plan the 2nd time around, and I loved it. However, since your base is currently at 3 miles, I would suggest running a half marathon before you tackle a full. It’s an entirely different animal. While I’m sure with dedication and perseverance, you can complete a full marathon, starting out with a half marathon would be the most feasible answer. Also, if you’ve never run a race at all, consider signing up for a 5K or 10K to get the feel for what a race day agenda may be like. That way, you can develop race day strategies and learn a thing or two to be better prepared and more calm. There will always be another marathon, so remember to play it safe. <3
Check out Hal Higdon’s Novice 1 Half Marathon training plan! :) Good luck, and chase your fears across that finish line!
